Three ways Ottawa prices a TV

Ottawa installers do not agree on one method. A flat rate by screen size is the easiest to compare. A per-job range is what a directory page prints. An hourly rate turns the same job into hours. The table above holds one example of each, and each comes from a page opened on 29 October 2026.

The flat list comes from Auxe, an installer with an Ottawa page: $89.50 up to 31 inches, $119.50 from 32 to 60. The HomeStars Gloucester page prices TV, shelf or artwork mounting at $80–$250 a job. TaskRabbit Ottawa starts at $45 an hour and says the rate varies from Tasker to Tasker.

Minimums decide small jobs

On hourly booking the minimum often matters more than the rate. One Tasker on TaskRabbit’s general mounting page says a 2-hour minimum applies to all bookings and each TV is billed at a minimum of 1 hour. HomeStars mentions minimums sized in hours and prints no dollar figure for them.

One TV rarely fills two hours. Adding a shelf, a curtain rod or a flat-pack piece to the same visit uses the time already paid for; see shelves, curtain rods and art and furniture assembly.

What moves the number

  • Screen size and weight. A flat list steps up by size.
  • Wall type. Masonry and facades take longer to drill, TaskRabbit Ottawa notes. See TV on brick or concrete.
  • Cables. The flat list prices cord concealment at $59–$99. Read hiding TV cables for the routes.
  • Soundbar and extras. $49 for a soundbar on the same list.
  • Mount. Bought by you or supplied by the company.
  • Travel. Distance can add a charge, per HomeStars.

A new outlet behind the TV is outside this table. Paid electrical work goes to a Licensed Electrical Contractor under ESA’s rules, and the HomeStars handyman guide prices it at $55–$175 per fixture, a separate trade. For the line between handyman and trade, see handyman or trade.

Reading a quote

A good quote names the number of TVs and sizes, the mount, the wall type, the cables and the total with tax. A quote that says only “TV mounting” leaves each of these open. Ask for the extras one by one, then for the total. A job list with several items is easier to price as a block, as the general page TV mounting and assembly explains.

What the figures cannot tell you

The sources print no price for your wall, your cable route or your building. The Assembly Experts page for Ottawa describes the service in detail and prints no prices. Treat the numbers as a range to test the quote against.

The number to compare

The desk hands your request to one independent Ottawa company. Expect questions about the TV, the wall and the cables, then a price; get it in writing and hold it against the table above.

Questions to ask the company

  1. Is your price flat by screen size, per job or hourly, and is there a minimum visit?
  2. Is the bracket included, and what warranty covers it?
  3. What do cables, a soundbar or a second TV add?
  4. Is tax included in the number you give me?
  5. How do you charge if the wall turns out to be brick or concrete?

Have this ready for the call

  • Screen size and weight for each TV, and the wall mount model if you have one
  • The list of extras: soundbar, cable cover, shelf, console
  • The wall type and the height you want, marked with painter's tape
  • Your postcode or area, since travel can be charged by distance
  • Any building rules on work hours and elevators

Questions people ask

Does the bracket come with the price?

It depends on the company. Auxe says that when it supplies the wall mount, the bracket carries a 90-day warranty, and that no warranty applies to hardware the customer provides. Ask whether your quote includes a bracket, which type, and what happens if you buy your own.

Does the size of the screen change the price?

On flat-rate lists, yes: the Ottawa-area list steps up a price band at 32 inches. On hourly or per-job pricing, size matters through time and the number of hands. A large TV usually takes two people, so say the size on the request.

Do Kanata, Orléans or Barrhaven pay a travel charge for a TV mount?

The HomeStars handyman guide says distance from the provider may add a travel charge and gives no dollar figure. Kanata, Orléans and Barrhaven are all within the City of Ottawa, so give your area in the request and ask whether travel is in the number.

How much does a second TV or a soundbar add?

A soundbar is $49 on the published Ottawa-area list. A second TV is priced again by size on a flat list. On hourly bookings, one Tasker bills each TV at 1 hour minimum. Put every device in the request and ask for one total.

Why did two quotes differ by more than double?

They often price different things. One may be a flat rate for a TV only, another an hourly rate with a 2-hour minimum that includes cables and shelves. The HomeStars Gloucester range runs $80–$250 a job for the same reason. Ask what each number covers.

Are those prices before or after tax?

The sources do not say for every figure, and the HomeStars pages print no tax note. Ask the company to state whether its number includes HST. A written total removes the guesswork.
