Published prices in one table

The sources use three yardsticks: a price per task, a price per piece and a rate per hour. The table puts them side by side.

IKEA flat rates by item

Taskrabbit’s IKEA guide of 12 August 2026 covers Canada. It prints flat rates per product and a $45 minimum per booking. Examples: VITTSJÖ coffee table $15.60, POÄNG armchair $21.60, TONSTAD night stand $28.80, SANDSBERG table $31.20, BESTÅ TV bench $34.80, FRIHETEN corner sofa bed $52.80, PAX/GRIMO wardrobe combination $57.60, STORKLINTA six-drawer chest $60.00, HAUGA table and four chairs $60.00, MALM high bed frame with two storage boxes $73.20, BILLY bookcase $105.60, AURDAL wardrobe combination $115.20 and BRIMNES bed frame with storage $165.60.

Added together, a bedroom of MALM ($73.20), STORKLINTA ($60.00) and PAX/GRIMO ($57.60) comes to $190.80. Three living-room pieces, BESTÅ, POÄNG and VITTSJÖ, come to $72.00. These sums are a yardstick, since an independent company sets its own price. IKEA Canada says its service starts at $45, with the total fixed at checkout. Taskrabbit puts the average Ottawa/Gatineau invoice at $138.

What moves the number

  • Type and complexity. Chairs sit at the bottom, wardrobes and modular office sets at the top. One Ottawa firm’s blog names this first.
  • Number of items. Several pieces raise the total.
  • Time. Experienced hands finish faster, and the minimum visit sets a floor.
  • Extras. Moving pieces to another room, taking apart old furniture and disposing of packaging can carry fees. Taskrabbit’s guide lists large amounts of packaging as outside its standard IKEA service.
  • Access. Stairs, parking and distance. HomeStars lists travel and call-out fees by distance as a factor for handyman work.

Reading a written quote

A good quote names each piece, says whether the price is per piece, per hour or for the list, states the minimum visit, and says who handles carrying, fastening to the wall and packaging. Ontario’s checklist for a repair contract adds the contractor’s name and contact details, payment terms, the schedule, clean-up and warranty terms. Above $50 the contract goes in writing, the province suggests a down payment of 10% at most, and a contract worth $50 or more signed at home can be cancelled within 10 days.

Before you compare

Put the same list in front of every company. The furniture assembly page explains the piece types, IKEA assembly the system lines, and bed and crib assembly the beds. Mounting and hanging have their own table on TV mounting cost, and the wider hourly picture is on handyman cost in Ottawa.

Who prices your list

The desk passes the request to one independent local company. That company reads the list, calls with its price and sends the person who builds.

Questions to ask the company

  1. Is the figure per piece, per hour, or one price for the list, and which pieces does it name?
  2. How long is your minimum visit, and what does each extra half hour cost?
  3. Does the price include carrying boxes between floors and taking away packaging?
  4. Is there a travel or call-out charge for my address?
  5. Will the estimate go into a written contract, and what happens if I add a piece?

Have this ready for the call

  • A list of every piece with brand, product name and quantity
  • The floor, the elevator or stairs, and where a visitor can park
  • The pieces that need to come apart, and the pieces that must go on a wall
  • A note on any piece already started or with a part missing

Questions people ask

Why is one assembly price per task and another per piece?

They count different things. HomeStars prints $95 to $225 for assembly tasks and $50 to $100 for one piece on its Gloucester page, and one Ottawa firm prints three tiers by complexity. A task can be several pieces, while a piece is one. Compare quotes only when both name the same pieces.

Is it cheaper to pay by the hour?

It depends on the list. TaskRabbit’s Ottawa page shows Taskers with a 2-hour minimum, and HomeStars prices general handyman work in Ottawa at $85 to $120 an hour. Flat rates cap the risk on slow pieces, hourly rates favour a list of quick ones.

How does a $45 minimum work with several small pieces?

On IKEA’s flat-rate list through Taskrabbit, each item has its own price and the items in one booking add up toward the $45 minimum. A coffee table at $15.60, an armchair at $21.60 and a night stand at $28.80 together clear it. An independent company sets its own minimum, so ask for it.

Is taking furniture apart priced like building it?

The HomeStars Gloucester page lists assembly and disassembly together at $50 to $100 a job, and one Ottawa firm offers both for moves. Disassembly for a move usually comes with reassembly at the new address, so ask whether the quote covers one visit or two and who carries the pieces.

What if the final bill is higher than the quote?

Ontario caps the bill at 10% above an estimate that is part of the contract, unless you agree to new work or a new price. A piece added on the day is new work, so ask for the new figure before it starts.
